Holiday With Your Favourite Disney Character: Ariel

By Emily Collins

Visiting the destination of your favourite Disney character is a great way to get a Disney inspired holiday without having to put up with the queues associated with the theme parks.

The ocean is so far spread that lovers of the Little Mermaid have lots of wonderful holiday options that they can consider. Look at the Holiday Discount Centre for ocean-side inspiration and consider destinations such as Miami, Cuba or Jamaica, birthplace of Sebastian the crab.

In Miami there are various spots renowned for the marine life. Pompano Beach Dropoff is known for featuring flat rock masses of 100 metres in width, and an array of coral, seawhips and sponges. Vista Reef Park is a coral reef with black margate, spadefish, snappers, damselfish and grunts, but also has many hiding places for lobsters so keep your eyes peeled for those. For the best variety of tropical fish (maybe even a 'flounder' or two!), head to Hollywood North Beach Park. The reef is also home to barracudas, nurse sharks, snook and tarpon.

The warm waters and high visibility of Jamaica's waters make diving extremely popular here. Schools of colourful fish and bright coral can be found at Negril Marine Park, which is one of the best spots in the country for scuba diving. Not only is the destination peaceful but it is full of caves and caverns to explore. Perhaps you'll find Ariel's secret stash of human treasures, including her dinglehopper and snarfblatt, in one of these caverns.

There are a number of places where you can see the marine life, such as Rock Cliff Reef, which is known for its eel population, or Sharks Reef which is home to an abundance of sharks, the majority of which are nurse sharks. However, don't miss the Throne Room, a 40-foot wide cavern found 65-feet below sea level and lined with yellow sponges from wall to wall.
