Getting Quality Camping Cookware And Utensils

By Kristian Selimonas

If you pick camping cookware and utensils, you should select those made with material of the highest quality; it keeps you from buying a new set within short durations. The most commonly used material for cookware and utensils is aluminum, chosen for its excellent quality. Aside from being inexpensive, aluminum is favored because of its light weight and conduction abilities. Sharing is something that is given a lot of importance in camping, that's why they prefer slow cooking. Aluminum will keep the meal cooking because of its heat-conducting qualities. Stainless steel is also a good choice of material. Aluminum may be the better heat conductor, but stainless steel is the stronger material.

Stainless steel cookware is the preferred option for meals that have to be cooked in high heat and for a longer time. When it comes to durability, titanium is at the top of the heap when it comes to cookware. But although it is stronger than stainless steel, it does not cook as well. Both Stainless steel and Titanium are expensive but long-lasting materials of choice when shopping for camping utensils and cookware. Easy handling is preferred whenever one goes camping. The tent should be easy to set up, the food easy to cook, and the utensils and cookware easy to clean. That is the reason why cookware and utensils that are non-stick are very popular.

The quality of the non-stick coating of these utensils vary. It mostly depends on the material used to make them. The non-stick coating will facilitate cooking by preventing the food from sticking to the pan. It will also facilitate cleaning of the cookware afterwards. You should bear in mind that the coating are somewhat delicate and can easily scratch. When camping, you should try to find a way to keep your luggage or your camping gear light. Pack only the essentials and choose the lighter options. Heavy metal cookware should be compensated by getting plastic cutlery instead. They are good too because they are inexpensive. You should also get plastic containers aside from the plastic cutlery.

Packing light would also require you to practice a bit of creativity or innovativeness. You can choose multi-purpose utensils. For instances, you can decide to carry several large tray plates and eat in them as a group of two or three people instead of carry small plates. Pot lids can also be used as plates to eat from, and vice versa. You can as well improvise lids by using frying pans. Instead of getting three different pots, you can use just one large pot to boil water in, make coffee or tea, and then cook meals. Eating using your hands could also be done, but you have to have serving spoons.

Now that the material of cookware and utensils has been decided on, you now have to think about the number of items you have to buy. Should you buy a set, or should you just buy a piece? You will cut cost if buy a set and intend to use the other pieces at home and use the other when you are camping. Or you could just buy the pieces of cookware or utensils as the need arises. You will get a lot of benefit from these utensils and cookware, but they will differ accordingly with the type of camping that you will be doing.
