American History Through Western Art

By Laura Gallagher

One of the best ways to make a house feel like a home is to decorate it with a personal style. The choices that people make for decorations can include putting pieces of artwork right on the walls. Western art is very ideal for people with deep rooted histories in the western half of the world.

Arts that date from as far back as the third millenium B. C. Demonstrate how old artwork is in human history. From ancient Egyptians to the ancestors of the Middle East, the influence has been found everywhere. In some cases, it may have only been discovered as cave paintings, or a series of standing stones.

With the onset of ancient Greece's culture, artwork came to the forefront of history. People began to realize the value of the decorative drawings they were viewing and began to collect the work of others. There was no shame in leaving true artistry to those who were most skilled at it.

Modern west artistry includes not only the European countries but also the continents of North and South America. It encompasses the Oceanic cultures as well. The west is a great much larger and more diverse population than it ever was and so its cultural influence on artworks has been much more impacting.

Modern arts tend to honour the homesteaders of North America. The hardships and tribulations immigrants had to endure when coming to this continent were vast, and yet they overcame it with creativity and flare. The arts that pay homage to these historic moments are rampant with images of the wild west, horses, cowboys and true traditional native Americans.

western art makes for great interesting and personalized decor in a modern home. Being able to dress a home around a specific theme is a great way to customize a new house. Art of this nature showcases the honored roots of the North American culture.
