All You Need to Know About Hookahs

By John McCree

Looking for a good shisha flavor? Read along to learn how you can find a superb shisha flavor that suits your taste buds.

The flavorful tobacco, which is usually used in a hookah is commonly called shisha. Following are the ingredients, which are found in shisha nowadays:

1. Tobacco

2. Treacle (uncrystallized syrup produced in refining sugar)

3. Honey

4. Sugar

5. Molasses

6. Glycerin

7. Nicotine

8. Dried Fruit

9. Distilled Water

The hookah smokers prefer the typical fruity flavors like apple, banana or mango. But, there are a lot of new and creative flavors in the market such as Starbuzz's "Blue Mist". The manufactures have also released many other flavors which are offshoots of fruity flavors. Flavors such as Apple pie, blueberry muffin and banana split are some of the popular ones.

There are many different shisha flavors available since it is quite simple to add flavors during the production. The dried tobacco, glycerin, and sweetener can be combined with basically any ingredients to create unique flavors.

Social Smoking

Hookah is normally shared in a social setting where the smokers may gather for friendly conversation and to enjoy the fragrance generated by the flavored shisha smoke. Hookahs grew common in the Middle Eastern countries very quickly and these smoking devices rapidly became an important part of all eating and drinking establishments. You can easily find hookahs in night clubs, smoking parlors, hookah bars and even in homes nowadays.

A great deal of the growing popularity of shisha can be attributed to the flavor and soothing effect of the smoke. As a comparison to cigarettes, hookah smoking is done more as a social pursuit and for the flavor, rather than for any kind of biological impact. While cigarettes provide more of a "quick fix" with a potent dose of nicotine and a generally disagreeable odor, a flavorful hookah session may last an hour or longer, and shisha doesn't have near the addictive qualities as cigarettes.

Getting the Most Flavor from Your Hookah

To get the most out of your hookah you don't need much, but simply some good common sense and a strong sense of discipline. The first and most critical thing is to clean your device routinely. After each smoking session you need to wash your hookah. It is advisable to wash hookah with warm water than with cold water.

Regarding specific tactics, it's important to prevent the charcoal from burning up the tobacco mid-session. The tobacco should not get stuck to the foil, better yet, the tobacco should not even touch the aluminum foil. When you are packing the bowl, make sure that the tobacco is at least a few millimeters below the rim of the bowl. In this manner, when you will wrap the foil on the top of the rim, there will be distance between the aluminum foil and tobacco. Putting two toothpicks on top of the tobacco in a cross is a great way to prevent the foil from touching the tobacco. Additionally, when "packing" the bowl, don't pack the tobacco down tightly. Instead, loosely pile it into a nice mound allowing the air to flow through the mound. This will also stop the tobacco from burning as easily, and it will require less suction on the hose to get a nice, full flavorful hit. To avoid overheating some people use two sheets of foil. The name of the game here is: KEEP IT REALLY CLEAN AND DON'T BURN THE SHISHA!
