Theaters and Concert Halls in Philadelphia

By Ellie Mayer

Philadelphia visitors should schedule time to visit the numerous cultural venues in the town. Concert halls in Philadelphia range all the way from intimate to big, while Philadelphia theaters host top flight performances. Whether you like opera or ballet, jazz or rock, one of many performing arts centers, concert halls and theaters in Philadelphia will provide the perfect venue.

Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

The Kimmel Center is home to two Philadelphia theaters: the 2,500-seat Verizon Hall and the 650-seat Pearlman Theater. The Pearlman Theater hosts a range of shows, from comedy shows and plays to live music performances. Verizon Hall is home to several performing arts groups, for example Philadanco, Peter Nero, the Philly Pops and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Temple Performing Arts Theater

Set on Temple University campus, the Temple Performing Arts Theater was constructed as a church building in 1891. After a 2010 remodel, this locale has become one of most recent theaters in Philadelphia. This historic structure seats 1,100 guests and hosts musical, dance and theater performances. Past performances include the Temple University Sinfonia and Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Compania Flamenca Jose Porcel dance troupe.

Electric Factory

The Electric Factory, one of the oldest concert halls in Philadelphia, first opened in 1964. After it underwent a major renovation, it reopened its doors in the mid-1990s. More intimate than some other Philly concert halls, this venue seats from 2,500 to 3,000 spectators. Past performances include head liners from the musical worlds of heavy metal, rap, grunge and plenty of other genres. The lower level of the Electric Factory is open to visitors over age 18, while the higher level serves alcohol to guests 21 and over.

Citizens Bank Park

The home of the Philadelphia Phillies, Citizens Bank Park also hosts a spread of concerts and other big events. The location seats more than 43,600 guests and is also home to shops, eateries and gaming on Ashburn Street. Enjoy a cheese steak while watching marquee shows by artists like Elton John, Jimmy Buffet or Bon Jovi.

The Wells Fargo Center

The Wells Fargo Center seats more than 20,000 spectators. The arena's oval shape guarantees that every seat has a good view whether you're sitting in a suite, club box, mezzanine or lower level. The Wells Fargo Center hosts more than 250 events every year, from ice skating competitions to circuses, NBA and NHL games to major demonstrations by musicians such as Ray Charles, Billy Joel and the Foo Wrestlers.
