Weddings: The Entertainment

By Derek P Lamington

Watching massively popular weddings on TV like William and Kate and the Kardashians can make your planned ceremony seem a little too normal. Nobody wants a plain wedding. This day is supposed to be magnificent...and under budget. Use the tips below to plan a great wedding that you'll be very proud of.

Try to negotiate as much as possible with the vendors that you are using for your wedding. If you do not act persistent, they will not reduce their cost themselves. Try to give your vendors a rich incentive to beat out the competition and earn your business for your wedding.

Do not use white flowers in your wedding. White flowers have a tendency to bruise, making them look unattractive and causing them to be virtually unusable. This means that your florist will have to get rid of a bunch of the blooms in order to find some that will look perfect on your special day. You will spend less money if you choose a different color.

One consideration many people don't think about when planning a wedding is how they will keep underage guests from drinking. This activity is illegal and you never know who might call the police on your event, especially the people who own the venue you're using! Protect everyone from prosecution and let the bartender know who shouldn't be served.

Ensure that everyone coming to your destination wedding, knows exactly what to do and where to go when they get off the plane. Provide them with detailed instructions on how to get to the hotel and then, how to get from the hotel to your wedding location. They should also have help in heading home.

Get the most from your wedding planner by doing your homework prior to your first meeting. Follow the lead of fashion designers and stylists who create "look books" and mood boards comprised of fabric swatches, imagery and other inspirational tidbits that can serve as a starting point for the finished product. You can include magazine clippings, photographs or even song lyrics to communicate your vision to your planner.

If you don't know the language in the place, you've selected for your destination wedding, consider hiring a local guide to assist you. This will help you in all your wedding preparations as well as any tours or events you decide to attend outside your wedding itself. Your family may also appreciate it for any problems they might face.

Buying locally can save you tons of money and help your community's economy, too. Choosing local vendors means you won't be charged for the extra distance they have to travel, which is especially important when it comes to catering. Using a local florist also means that you will receive a fresh bouquet on your wedding day.

Get married in an unusual location. The most popular venues in town will book early and will be very expensive. Consider going to an aquarium or a museum and seeing what they charge for a reception. Their packages usually include almost everything that you will need, and they cost less than other traditional venues.

If your heart is set on a destination wedding, talk to a travel agent to see if you can get a deal for everyone who is attending at a group rate. They are likely to have planned many wedding trips before yours, and will know exactly how to get the best deals possible.

If you have a lower budget for your wedding, don't include flowers in your decorations. For centerpieces you can use branches you find on a walk in the forest, and surround the containers you put them in with stones from a nearby river or creek. Make a bouquet out of local plants and flowers for a locavore touch!

If something goes wrong on your wedding day, don't freak out! My cake fell over on the way to my ceremony, and both the best man and woman were unable to attend. In the end, those people are no longer in my life and my new best woman was a cake decorator who was able to fix the cake. It will always work out!

If you will be having a wedding where many of the guests are out of town, you might want to consider sending out a save the date post card that just serves as an announcement of your upcoming marriage. It will help these guests start planning and making it more likely that they will attend.

Prior to the actual wedding and reception, you should definitely scout all the locations involved and identify the best areas to take photographs. You will want to select areas that have a lot of space for your large family pictures, and also private areas that capture essence of the venue well for the more intimate pictures. Also remember to schedule your larger group pictures so you do not end up running around looking for these people.

For men who are about to get married, it is just as important that you wear a nice tuxedo as it is that the bride wear a beautiful dress. Men just assume that all the attention is on their bride, but the groom has all eyes on him as well.

If you want to get married in an exotic location, think about the legal implications. Countries have different laws when it comes to marriage, especially regarding the exchange of possessions. Make sure both spouses are happy with what a foreign marriage contract means, and that the both of you are eligible to get married under these laws.

Whatever you can dream up, you can also probably make happen, the skies the limit! Just remember to stick to some basic advice, and you won't go too far out of the box either. Hopefully this article has given you some fun ideas for a wedding to remember.
