Boynton Beach Area Gardens, Parks & Museums

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge - Nature lovers will be awed by the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, which consists of more than 221 square miles in the most northern part of the Everglades. The Wildlife Refuge is well deserving of a 5 star rating and is a really great place to see all kinds of birds and wildlife. In any given year, as many as 257 species of birds may use the Refuge's diverse wetland habitats. Dedicated to protecting the last remaining portion of the unique Northern Everglades, this 147, 392-acre refuge is the largest remnant of a cypress swamp in Palm Beach County. Take a walk through the cypress swamp on the boardwalk and be amazed by the vast expanse of the everglades across the canal. Bird watchers may see Blue or White Herons, Marsh Hens, Grebes, Snail Kites, Wood Storks, Roseated Spoonbills, Loggerhead Shrike, Cedar Waxwing, Painted Buntings and 250 other varieties. And if you're searching for alligators you may see quite a few out on the nature trail, as well as turtles, opossum, raccoons and an occasional Florida Bobcat and River Otter. If you're adventurous, take the 5.5-mile canoe trail to see view the river of grass up-close. In addition, other activities open to visitors include walking trails, bike trail, boat ramps, fishing platform, observation towers, butterfly garden, and a visitor center. 10216 Lee Rd, Boynton Beach.

Green Cay Nature Center - Green Cay Wetlands is a 1.5 mile elevated boardwalk through a reclamation wetland project, which emulates the Everglades ecosystem and provides refuge for a large variety of wetland creatures. Green Cay also includes a 9,000 square foot nature center. The nature center provides hands-on experiences with live animals and tanks with frogs, turtles, and baby alligators. The nature center also sponsors learning events for kids of all ages, including their "night walk" where you get to experience the park at night. The Junior Naturalist Series at the Green Cay Nature Center is designed for young people who are interested in nature and outdoor activities. Palm Beach County Beaches Ocean Inlet Park. Located in Ocean Ridge, kids won't be able to get enough of the beautiful marina, where boat rentals are available. One of the jewels of Palm Beach County's park system, John Prince Park encompasses more than 725 acres, including a 338-acre lake. The park boasts a 4.5-mile bike path, campgrounds, boat-launching ramps, and fishing. Palm Beach Zoo At Dreher Park - The Palm Beach Zoo is a non-profit zoological organization located at Dreher Park in West Palm Beach. The Zoo houses over 1,400 animals within 23 acres of lush tropical habitat. Its mission is to provide an open-air classroom of living creatures to foster awareness, appreciation and respect for the natural world. Okeeheelee Nature Center - Okeeheelee Nature Center features 2.5 miles of trails winding through 90 acres of pine flatwoods and wetlands. Highlights of the center include hands-on exhibits, animal encounters and a nature related gift shop. Okeeheelee Park. If your kids aren't sure what they want to do, take them to Okeeheelee Park where they can do just about anything! You could spend days exploring the 1,700-acres that make up this popular county park. John D. MacArthur Beach State Park and Nature Center - Nestled on a barrier island, John D. MacArthur Beach State Park is the only state park in Palm Beach County. It is an environmental treasure that has been preserved for present and future generations to discover and experience. Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Lake Worth Lagoon, the park is 438-acres of natural environments, including seven species of plants and twenty-two species of animals designated as endangered or threatened. Enjoy exploring almost two miles of pristine beach and swimming, snorkeling and fishing in the clear blue waters of the Atlantic.
